Dan’s a northern lad who’s been on the radio since he was 18.
He’s the Radio X afternoon host. And he’s also on The Weekender, every Saturday from 7pm.
He spent almost 3 years as XFM’s drivetime presenter, broadcasting across the UK, every weekday afternoon from 4pm. He started at XFM in 2010, having previously worked on the old Galaxy network (now Capital FM) from 2005 to 2009.
Dan made his TV presenting debut early in 2012, hosting the brilliant Channel 4 music series ‘Launched at Red Bull Studios’ in which he interviewed the hotly tipped acts for 2012 over 10 episodes.
With a passion for live events, Dan has a long history of involvement in a variety of festivals – having spent 10 weekends at festivals last year reporting for XFM.
He’s been on stage in front of 50,000 people at Party in the Park; covered the Mercury Music Prize live from the awards and spent a month hosting shows for XFM and Coors Light from the top of a mountain in Val d’Isere. He’s also DJ’ed at many festivals – ranging from Lovebox to Secret Garden Party.
Dan’s also a sought-after voice over artist. He’s been the voice of QUEST, Discovery’s ‘rough and tough’ adventure channel and can also be heard on ITV2 and ITV4. At the moment, you can hear him doing “serious”, right across Investigation Discovery in the U.K. and Europe. Dan regularly lends his voice to numerous TV and Radio ads.
His warm and charming attitude puts his guests at ease, always leading to intelligent and inspiring interviews, be they on or off camera.
Away from music, Dan has a huge passion for travel and winter sports.
He also plays the bagpipes, and was once tipped as a future star of Hammer for Team GB after coming third in the Scottish Schools Athletics Championship. Unfortunately, it was later revealed only 3 people had entered, and he was awarded the bronze medal by default. Still counts…
As some of you know, one of the main charities i’ve worked with over the last 10 years has been Warchild. They do incredible work around the world with kids in conflict zones. 1 in 6 children now live in a war zone based on stats from Save The Children…which is a tragedy. This makes Warchild’s work even more important than ever. Every year i host some gigs for them during Brits Week. We take big bands and artists and stick them in tiny venues & try and raise as much cash as possible. 2018 is looking huge with Ed Sheeran, Alt J, Nathaniel Rateliff and loads more all lined up to play. Be nice to see you there! And thanks for the support as always. More info on Warchild here: https://www.warchild.org.uk
Happy Monday! I just got a lovely email from the people at the Brits asking if i’d be on the voting academy again next year. Which is a real honour. It’s also very easy, and you get to go to the Brits – so what’s not to like. We usually vote in December, and the actual awards are then dished out in London on Wednesday February 21st 2018. Good luck everyone.
I’m truly humbled, and dead proud, to tell you all that i’m going to be doing the radio show live from the Manchester Arena as it reopens on September 9th. May 22nd 2017 was a terrible day for the city. But as many of the victim’s families have said, this is part of moving on. This is how we show the people who try to divide us and make us afraid, that we’re not scared. And that our lives will continue to flourish. Noel Gallagher headlines the night, with Courteeners, Blossoms and Rick Astley on stage. All the money raised, goes to the Manchester Memorial Fund which is building a permanent memorial to all the people who lost their lives in the attack 3 months ago. I wish we were going in different circumstances, however I know how much work is going into this, and I can guarantee it’ll be a truly special night: Ticket details: www.radiox.co.uk
Dan most recently presented Launched at Red Bull Studios. This was a 10 part series for Channel 4/Globe Productions. The show was based around showcasing 10 of the biggest new bands and artists. Dan has a keen interest in music based television and documentaries.
Starting out at Viking FM in 2000, Dan worked behind the scenes on everything from the breakfast show to Friday Night Kiss.
During his time at university in Leeds, he spent a year working at the student radio station, LSRFM, doing his first “proper radio show”. After finishing his degree, he won a silver student radio award, which led to him being offered the overnight show at Viking FM.
He later moved to Galaxy (now CapitalFM) to present drivetime and weekends across the network. In 2010, he was asked to host the XFM afternoon show, which he went on to present for 2 years.
Shows on Kiss FM and NME Radio followed, with Dan returning to XFM in late 2012, to host drivetime and ‘The Weekender’.
You can currently hear Dan weekdays on Radio X, 1pm-4pm. And Saturday nights from 7pm.
As a voice over, Dan has worked across the board on projects for loads of different clients. His commercial work in the music industry has included campaigns for everybody from Ed Sheeran to the Swedish House Mafia. Other commercial clients include P&G, Smirnoff, Bacardi, Microsoft, Disney and Barclays.

Jade Bird In the modern vernacular, this girl’s voice is EVERYTHING. Jade was a fellow military brat, schlepping around the world like the the littlest hobo. She moved to London at 16 to make a career out of music, and 4 years later she’s finally starting to get some recognition. File next to Laura Marling … Continue reading “BLOG 49 – NEW MUSIC: THE BEST OF 2017…PART 2”
I started working in radio at the age of 18. It was the year 2000. We’d just survived the millennium bug. The computers hadn’t imploded, or ended civilisation as we knew it. Phew. Text messaging was also being embraced at stations across the world. SMS was really “taking off”, according to one boss. “What?!” blurted … Continue reading “Blog 48 – Trolling”
Yesterday, both Ed Sheeran and Tom Jones talked openly about the abuse of power, and sexual harassment within the music industry. It’s something I’ve seen first hand. Unfortunately, more than once. When I was 18, I’d been on a team night out with some friends who all worked at stations in the North of England. … Continue reading “Blog 47 – #metoo”

Warchild now helps over 100,000 children around the world, trapped in conflict zones through no choice of their own.
Make Some Noise supports small charities around the UK, who struggle to get heard. They work mostly with young people, and all the money raised has a massive impact on the work they can do, and the people they can reach.
